2012 Lenten Fast:
What’s Happening in Bolivia
Fasting for the Bolivian Methodists is a corporate spiritual experience, and not simply a private individualized one. This reflects the different, more corporate approach that they take to all of life, and to their faith.
Consequently, you gather as a group when you Fast. It is expected that virtually every national pastor, most lay pastors, and persons from every district of Bolivia (over 1,000 Methodists) will gather together in La Paz at 7:00pm (Bolivian Time) March 23rd and stay together in prayer, worship, Bible Study, and fasting until Sunday morning March 25th at 11:00am when they will break the fast with communion.
Other events in Bolivia will include:
Fri March 23rd 6:00pm Arrival of the delegations of the districts in La Paz
- 7:00pm - “Opening Worship” in the Coliseum of the American Institute La Paz.
Saturday, March 24th:
- 4:00am – Departure to the base of a small mountain near Lake Titicaca.
- 5:00am – Silent March up the Mount Santa Ana

6:00am – Sunrise Morning Prayer at Mount Santa Ana, Worship and Sermon: “Prayer of Gethsemane to Mountains of the Andes” - 10:00am – Go to the Shores of Lake Titicaca
- 11:00am - Worship on the shores of Lake Titicaca. Sermon ”A Message from sea of Galilee to sacred Shores of Lake Titicaca”
- 2:00pm – Break into “12 tribes” for Prayer groups
- 2:30pm - Return to La Paz
- 7:00pm – “Worship of Spiritual Revival” in the Colosseum at Institute American La Paz & Presentation of the districts.
- 8:00pm (7:00pm CDT) Live Webcast Bi-contenintal Worship Service with Bishop Rojas and Bishop Robert Hayes of Oklahoma preaching
Sunday March 25
- 6:00am – Morning Prayer at the Colosseum of the American Institute
- 9:30am (8:30am CDT) – Live Webcast of Bi-Contenintal Worship service from La Paz Bolivia and First UMC Stillwater, Oklahoma.
- 10:30-11:00am Celebration of Holy Communion
- Noon Closing and going back to the districts
The funds that they would have spent on food will be donated to the Bolivian Pastor’s Endowment Fund.
